GTA 6
Who are Jason and Lucia? GTA 6's two leads explained
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has two playable leads, Jason and Lucia, and it's the first mainline game in the series with a female lead. Their partnership sits at the centre of the story and of how you play.

The short version
| Jason | Lucia | |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Jason Duval | Lucia Caminos |
| Role | Co-lead | Co-lead |
| Known background | Ex-military, as widely reported | Recently out of prison, grew up in Liberty City |
What's the story?
Rockstar's site puts the pair at the core of the story, caught up in a criminal conspiracy in Leonida. Coverage describes the tone as a Bonnie and Clyde-style crime story. We're keeping spoilers out of this guide.
Lucia's ankle monitor
Rockstar told IGN the monitor matters to the plot and to how the two come together. GTA Base reports that she removes it early and that it doesn't limit how you play.
How switching works
You can move between them much as you could between characters in GTA 5, with extra options when they're together. In a car, one can drive while you handle the shooting.
Is the romance required?
No. Rockstar has said the relationship is something you nurture, and that it's optional. Reports say it shapes the story and roleplay, rather than giving stat bonuses, but you can expect firmer detail once people have played it.
Why two leads?
GTA 5 proved that switching characters could work, but its three leads often went their own way. GTA 6 keeps you close to one partnership. That's why so many of the new features rely on them being together, from riding as a passenger in a chase to texting about everyday things. If one's arrested and the other gets away, the game still treats it as Busted for the one who's caught.
Who else is in the story?
Reports name supporting characters including Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, DreQuan Priest, Raul Bautista and The Real Dimez. GTA Base says that Jason and Lucia start out living rent-free in the Leonida Keys, in exchange for doing jobs for Brian.
Who's better to play as?
We won't know until the game's out. They're presented as equals, and you'll want to use both. Rockstar told IGN that parts of their backstories are explained directly, and others are left for you to piece together, so pay attention to small details.
Does the story change?
Rockstar told IGN that decisions vary in size, and that smaller ones can build towards bigger consequences. It also says the story was designed with repeat playthroughs in mind.
