PlayStation VR2 is getting hard to buy new, and Sony isn't saying why. Road to VR reported on November 3 that Sony no longer sells the headset through its own store in the US or Japan, and that removals from direct.playstation.com began around mid-October. Push Square searched the US store the same day and says it could find no sign of the headset.
We couldn't check Sony's US and Japan stores directly, so those claims rest on the two outlets' reporting. Neither outlet reports that Sony has declared PSVR2 discontinued.
Where it's still sold
Road to VR says it pulled together a timeline from multiple pages, and its picture of Sony's regional stores looks like this:
- US and Japan: Sony no longer sells the headset.
- EU and UK: the headset still shows as in stock.
- Canada, Australia and New Zealand: Sony's store simply points buyers to third-party retailers.
The UK half of that holds up on Sony's side. PlayStation's UK buying page lists PlayStation VR2 at £399.99 with a purchase button, though it doesn't show a stock level.
Push Square's look at the US store adds some useful detail. The PS5 accessories section still has a PSVR2 heading, but the outlet says only the charging station, the PC adapter and a third-party case appear under it. It also says the link that should lead to the headset's purchase page was producing a 404 error.
Retail stock is thinning too
The third-party picture isn't much better. Road to VR says Amazon availability of both the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle and the standalone headset began to waver earlier this year and has now "all but flatlined". Its chart covers the standalone model in the US.
Best Buy and Walmart still show listings, but Road to VR and Push Square both say that stock comes from third-party sellers at a markup, around $750 at Best Buy. For comparison, Road to VR notes the headset launched at $550 and was permanently cut to $400 in March 2025.
What isn't confirmed
The key gap is Sony itself. Road to VR says Sony "hasn't spoken officially on the matter", and Push Square's report carries no comment from the company either. Neither report says anything about changes to support for people who already own the headset.
Road to VR also repeats a rumour that Sony never restarted production after a pause in March 2024. The outlet labels that a rumour, and it should be read as one.
Black Friday, about three weeks away, is the next thing to watch. In its opinion section, Road to VR says companies typically reserve large stocks around then for nationwide discounts. Push Square recalls that Sony took $100 off the headset last year, and says it'll be interesting to see whether a discount appears this month, and whether there's even stock for one.
Mason's take: Sony doesn't need to say a word for this to read like a slow goodbye, but I'd stop short of writing the obituary until it does. Pulling a product from two major markets while leaving it on sale in the UK could mean a wind-down, or simply uneven regional stock. The people owed a clear answer are the owners who bought in, and they deserve to hear it from Sony rather than from a broken store link.
