Morbid Metal adds Kaizu as its fourth playable fighter

Morbid Metal's fourth fighter, Kaizu, is live in Early Access with a close-range kit built to make Vulnerable effects and buffs carry through character swaps.

Morbid Metal has added Kaizu to its Early Access roster, giving the action roguelite a fourth playable fighter built around staying close, making enemies Vulnerable and turning that opening into heavier follow-up damage.

Ubisoft's October 2 update describes Kaizu as an aggressive brawler rather than another evasive option. That matters in *Morbid Metal* because characters are designed to be swapped in and out during combat. Kaizu's kit is not just a self-contained moveset; several of his tools are meant to leave useful conditions behind for whoever enters next.

Kaizu is built to keep pressure on

Kaizu has six Protocols, split across three ability inputs. Leap launches him at a target and applies Vulnerable on impact, while Void Boulder also applies Vulnerable from a different setup. Ubisoft says enemies carrying that status take increased damage, and crucially, the effect remains active when the player shapeshifts into another character.

That gives Kaizu an obvious job in the wider roster: create a damage window, pile on pressure, then either finish the target himself or hand the opening to another fighter.

His other abilities lean further into that rhythm. Rage damages nearby enemies while adding stackable buffs to Kaizu. Gattling delivers a stream of hits that escalates as it continues. Combo Kick extends regular attacks into heavier kicks, and Lariat is positioned as a hard-closing charge through enemies in its path.

Ubisoft also says Kaizu's Empower interaction adds a stack to every stackable Corpora and buff he already has active. In other words, the character is designed around momentum: weaken a target, build Kaizu up, then cash that advantage in before the sequence falls apart.

Character switching is still the bigger system

The useful part is how those mechanics plug into *Morbid Metal's* defining combat idea. The game lets players shapeshift between characters in real time, combining distinct abilities rather than locking a run to one fighter. Steam's current store listing describes the same core loop, with mid-combat switching used to chain attacks and construct different combinations.

Kaizu expands that system without replacing it. Vulnerable persisting through a character swap means his contribution can continue after he leaves the field, which gives the fourth roster slot a clearer mechanical purpose than simply adding another damage profile.

Morbid Metal is still in Early Access

This is an update to an unfinished game, not a final-launch roster announcement. *Morbid Metal* entered Steam Early Access on April 8, 2026, and its Steam page still labels the project Early Access. Developer Screen Juice says its Year One roadmap is deliberately flexible so community feedback can influence development.

That caveat is worth keeping attached to Kaizu. His current abilities and interactions are live now, but Early Access systems can change as balancing and development continue.

For players following the game's combat updates, Kaizu is a meaningful addition because he gives the shapeshifting system another way to carry an advantage across characters. The headline is not simply that *Morbid Metal* has one more fighter. It is that its fourth fighter is designed to make swapping matter even after he is no longer on screen.
