Nintendo's Mario Kart World Open September 2026 is the first qualifying event for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup, with 24 championship places available to the highest-ranked eligible players. The event runs from September 19 at 2:00 p.m. PT until September 20 at 6:00 p.m. PT.
Entry happens inside Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says players need the game, a Nintendo Account, internet access and a Nintendo Switch Online membership. The in-game event uses Event ID 7943.
The format is 32 races, 150cc and normal items
Nintendo's event settings keep the competition close to recognizable Mario Kart World online play: VS Race at 150cc, no teams, normal items, no CPU racers and connected course selection. Players can complete up to 32 races during the qualifying window.
The score from those races determines the event ranking. Under the official Fall Cup rules, the top 24 players from each qualifying event can advance to the December championship, subject to the eligibility and verification requirements in the rules.
September is only the first route in. Nintendo has scheduled two more qualifying events: October 17–18 and November 21–22. That gives players who miss the first weekend two later opportunities to qualify rather than making the September event a one-shot tournament.
Participation points are not the same as tournament prizes
Nintendo is also offering 50 My Nintendo Platinum Points to eligible participants from North and South America. The company says those points should be ready to claim around September 29.
That participation reward is separate from qualifying for the Fall Cup and separate again from the championship prize packages. The official rules describe 24 championship prize packages in total and set age and residency requirements that differ by country. Players should read those rules rather than assuming that entering the in-game event makes them eligible for every prize.
The event page also warns that some Nintendo Account information can be visible on the results page, including a username, player icon and score. Players whose account or player names break Nintendo's terms can be excluded from rankings.
For competitive Mario Kart players, the September Open is useful because its stakes are easy to understand. There is no separate external qualifier to find: enter the event in Mario Kart World, race up to 32 times, and try to finish inside the top 24. Everyone else can treat it as a structured online event with a small participation reward.
The next milestone after September 20 is verification of the qualifying results. Players who do not make the first cut can then look toward the October and November Opens before the Fall Cup championship in December.
There is also a regional boundary. Nintendo's rules make the Fall Cup a North American competition and set different minimum ages for the United States and Canada versus Mexico. Players elsewhere may see Mario Kart World online events, but they should not assume this qualifier's championship route or prizes apply to their account region.
Because rankings are based on a limited number of races, the format rewards consistency as much as a single strong finish. Nintendo does not let players grind an unlimited number of attempts inside the qualifier; once the maximum 32 races is reached, the score window is effectively set for that event.
