Nintendo has set the next Mario Kart World Open for October 17–18, and there is more at stake than bragging rights. The October event is the second qualifying opportunity for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026, a championship scheduled for December. But players should distinguish entering the online race event from becoming eligible to qualify for that North American competition.
Nintendo's announced window opens Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time and closes Sunday, October 18 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Those are Pacific times: check the local conversion before organising a racing session, particularly outside North America.
The entry code and race format
To find the October Open, Nintendo says to open Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2, select Online Play, press the minus button to search for an event, then enter the four-digit Event ID 4450. The event requires a Nintendo Account, an internet connection, the game, a Nintendo Switch 2 system and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo notes that eligible free trials of the online membership can qualify under its terms.
The rules fix the event format: VS Race, 150cc, no teams, normal items, connected course selection and up to 32 races. Your tournament ranking comes from the in-game score recorded during the event. This is not a single grand-prix race that automatically sends its winner to the final.
There are limits worth reading rather than guessing. Nintendo's official rules say that 24 highest-ranked eligible players from each qualifying event may advance to the Fall Cup championship after verification. Ranking highly is not the same as instantly securing a confirmed place. Nintendo first checks eligibility and contacts the prospective qualifiers by email. Candidates must respond to the instructions by the deadline stated in the official rules.
October is the middle of three qualifier weekends: the programme also includes September and November events. Nintendo schedules the championship for December 12, with qualifying groups and finals to determine the ultimate result. Those later stages are separate from the public October weekend.
Why the region restriction matters
The Mario Kart World Open can attract interest more broadly than the actual Fall Cup championship. Nintendo says players eligible for certain North and South American event-participation rewards can receive 50 My Nintendo Platinum Points. It expects those points to become claimable around October 27, subject to its mission terms.
That participation reward does not make the December Fall Cup a worldwide tournament. The championship's published eligibility rules require legal residence in the United States, Canada or Mexico and physical presence in one of those territories while participating. The minimum age is 13 for US and Canadian residents, and 18 for Mexican residents. Other exclusions and account requirements also apply.
For someone watching from Australia or elsewhere, that is the essential distinction. You may be interested in the racing event and its format, but the official qualifiers for the December championship are region-limited. It would be inaccurate to promise that a high placing from any country leads to a finals invitation.
The tournament also involves public-facing results. Nintendo warns that associated account information, such as a player name, icon or score, may appear on the event results page. Anyone entering should review that visibility and the full competition terms first.
The weekend's action plan is simple: check the local start time, confirm your online subscription, use 4450 to find the event, and read the official eligibility criteria if your aim is more than a fast series of races. The Fall Cup qualification ladder rewards results, but it begins with following the rules.
