ARC Raiders is available to try without an Xbox Game Pass membership during Xbox's Free Play Days promotion running from October 8 through Sunday, October 11. It is the standout invitation in a weekend that also features racing, horror, pirates and other games, but the access rules are not identical across every title.

Xbox explicitly places ARC Raiders in its Free Play Days for All category. That means an Xbox member does not need an Ultimate, Premium or Essential Game Pass tier just to claim the weekend trial. Anyone choosing a different featured game should check the separate rules instead of assuming the entire list has the same access.

A free weekend meets a major update

The promotion arrives alongside Frozen Trail, the game's latest substantial content update. Embark Studios describes it as a new phase for its extraction adventure, introducing a frozen environment, further enemy threats and additional ways to progress. The practical appeal is straightforward: new players can sample the game while its community is exploring fresh content.

Xbox says the base game, Deluxe Edition and Deluxe upgrade will also be discounted by 50 percent from October 8 through October 15, where the offer is available. That discount is a separate purchase decision; it is not a charge for taking part in the free trial.

In its official free-weekend notice, developer Embark Studios confirms cross-platform access from October 8 at 09:00 UTC to October 12 at 08:00 UTC. Those dates do not contradict Xbox's October 8–11 weekend wording: the end falls on Monday morning in UTC, after Sunday in several local timezones.

For an Xbox player, the safest approach is to follow the Xbox store's local countdown rather than assume that every country ends the promotion at midnight.

Not everything in Free Play Days is fully unlocked

Xbox separates its weekend selection into different categories. Screamer and Family Man are part of the Game Pass-member Free Play Days selection, so the membership condition applies to them. High On Life 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Little Nightmares III and Rogue Waters are described as timed trials rather than unrestricted weekend access.

That difference is more important than the size of the promotional list. A limited trial might be long enough to judge a game's opening but not to explore every system. A full-weekend offer gives players more freedom, although the exact store terms should still be checked before installing.

Xbox says players can find eligible games through their individual store listings while signed in, or through the subscriptions area and Free Play Days collection on console. Exact availability can differ between regions and versions.

Should you take the plunge?

ARC Raiders is an extraction-focused multiplayer game, so a free weekend is an unusually convenient way to find out whether its risk-and-reward loop is enjoyable with your usual group. Try a few sessions, learn how much progress you can make and decide whether you want to return once the temporary access ends.

There is no need to buy first to participate in the Xbox promotion. If you do decide to keep playing afterward, Xbox says earned achievements and Gamerscore can carry through when you purchase the game, subject to the normal account and edition conditions.

The clearest takeaway is the membership exception: ARC Raiders is the one Xbox is advertising as free for all members this weekend. Treat the other games, the cross-platform UTC timing and the purchase discounts as separate offers rather than one blanket giveaway.
