Xbox Free Play Days has three full games open for the weekend: Train Sim World 6: Standard Edition, Icarus: Console Edition and Lynked: Banner of the Spark. Microsoft says the promotion runs from Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members.
That makes this one of the simpler Free Play Days lineups. There is no confusing mix of two-hour trials and separate public-access windows in Microsoft’s announcement. If you have one of the listed Game Pass memberships, the three games are available to install and play during the event window.
Three very different weekends in one
Train Sim World 6 is the slowest option in the best possible sense. The Standard Edition focuses on operating trains across three routes, with Xbox Play Anywhere and Smart Delivery listed on the Xbox Wire page. It is the pick for anyone who would rather learn a timetable than dodge a boss attack.
Icarus: Console Edition goes the other way. It is a survival game built around hostile weather, wildlife, gathering and crafting, with solo play or co-op for up to four players. Microsoft also highlights a temporary discount on the game and its available DLC during the Free Play Days period, so anyone who decides to keep going can check the store price before the promotion ends.
Lynked: Banner of the Spark is the oddball middle ground. It combines roguelite combat with a village-building and life-sim layer, sending players out to fight robots before bringing resources back to improve the home base. It is the easiest of the three to underestimate from a screenshot because the combat and progression loops are doing different jobs.
How to actually get the games
On console, Microsoft directs players to the Subscriptions area of the Xbox Store and then the Free Play Days collection. On the web, the individual game pages should expose the install option after signing into an account with an eligible Game Pass membership.
Progress and achievements earned during Free Play Days can carry into the purchased version if you decide to keep a game. That is the real value of these weekends: they are long enough to answer whether a game fits, without forcing a fresh save if the answer is yes.
The deadline is the bit worth remembering. Microsoft’s current post says Train Sim World 6, Icarus and Lynked are playable through Sunday, August 23. Availability and discounts can vary by region, so the store listing attached to your own account is the final check for price and access.
There is no need to “claim” all three just because they are there. Pick the one that answers a real curiosity, install it early enough to get useful play time, and ignore the other two if they are not your thing. Free weekends are better when they do not become a backlog with a countdown timer.
The next Free Play Days lineup has not been confirmed in the sources checked here. This weekend’s trio is the live offer: trains, hostile alien wilderness, or robot-smashing village life, ending August 23.
