Nintendo's September 9 Direct did not hide the pitch: Switch 2 is heading into winter with a lot more names on the board. The roughly 45-minute presentation put two new Nintendo-led games near the front of that message, with Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond both confirmed for Switch 2.
The useful bit is that this was not just a logo parade. Nintendo attached dates or release windows to several of the biggest announcements. Nintendo's post-show roundup says Metroid Ravenous launches January 28, 2027, while Kirby and the World Beyond is due in spring 2027. The Direct page also frames the presentation around Switch 2 games arriving over the winter period.
Samus and Kirby give the show its clearest new anchors
Metroid Ravenous is an all-new 2D Metroid adventure for Switch 2. Nintendo says the standard and special editions both launch on January 28, with pre-orders opening after the presentation. A Samus amiibo and Chozo Statue amiibo are planned for launch as well, while a third Samus figure is bundled with the special edition.
That gives Switch 2 a fresh first-party action game early next year rather than leaving the post-holiday window to ports and upgrades. The more interesting surprise, though, may be Kirby. Nintendo describes Kirby and the World Beyond as a new 3D adventure built around freely exploring an expansive world and using Copy Abilities in different ways. Its spring 2027 window also lines up with the Kirby series' 35th anniversary.
There was plenty around those two. Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to Switch 2 on December 4 with previously released title-update content included and cross-platform multiplayer. Pikmin 4 gets a Switch 2 Edition plus Dandori Academy on November 12. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set for April 8, 2027, while Persona 6 is confirmed for Switch 2 without a release date in Nintendo's roundup.
Nintendo also used the show for things players can touch sooner. A free Mario Kart World update adds ten courses inspired by the original Super Mario Kart as standalone VS races, two new Knockout Tour routes and a Spectator Mode for supported multiplayer sessions. Star Fox Adventures was also announced for the Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics library later that day.
The bigger story is a broader Switch 2 calendar
Taken together, the Direct makes the next Switch 2 stretch look less dependent on one giant release. Nintendo has first-party games such as Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond, upgraded editions of existing games, major third-party names including Monster Hunter Wilds and Final Fantasy VII Revelation, and smaller updates designed to keep current owners busy between releases.
That is analysis rather than a promise about how any of those games will turn out. Nintendo has confirmed dates, platforms and features for many of the announcements, but it has not turned every reveal into a firm launch date. Persona 6, for example, is coming to Switch 2 but remains undated in the official roundup.
For players deciding what actually changed on September 9, the shortest version is simple: Metroid Ravenous is now a January 28, 2027 Switch 2 release, Kirby has a new 3D game coming in spring 2027, and Nintendo filled in more of the system's winter and early-2027 calendar around them. The trailers supplied the spectacle. The dates are the part worth writing down.
