Cyberpunk 2077's Free Edgerunners 2 Update Adds Dual Wielding, Mod Support and a Night City Prison Gig

Cyberpunk 2077's free Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5, is out now. It adds a Night City Prison gig tied to the anime, dual wielding, cross-platform mods through mod.io, separate save libraries and Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Cyberpunk 2077 has another big free update, and this one's tied to the anime. CD Projekt RED's Edgerunners 2 Update, version 2.5, went live on 22 October. "The free Edgerunners 2 Update is available now," CD Projekt's Joao De Mello wrote on Xbox Wire, and the list of what's in it is long.

The headline items: a new gig tied to the second Edgerunners season, dual wielding, and cross-platform mod support. Here's the lot, sorted by what you'll actually notice.

The new story content

The update adds an Edgerunners 2 gig from fixer Wakako, involving Weak Kingsley and set at Night City Prison. Finish it and you can kit V out in Weak's full outfit, with vest, glasses, coat and pants, and pick up his revolver, Coronation. There's also a new radio station, HKGN 102.FM.

Then there's the combat change. "Dual wielding is here!" the post says: you can now carry pistols or revolvers in each hand. CD Projekt's sign-off on that section is fair enough: "Jackie would be proud."

Changes you'll use every session

Most of 2.5 is quality-of-life work, and some of it is substantial:

  • Mods, officially: cross-platform mod support through mod.io, with a new Mods panel in the game.
  • Saves: separate save libraries for each V, which should make juggling several characters tidier.
  • Inventory: filters for V's item stash.
  • Looks: Glamdocs vendors in five locations offering 40 cyberware styles in different colours, plus 20 new hairstyles and several new clothing sets.
  • Extras: 12 new minor arcana tarot cards, and Photo Mode adds dual-wielding poses and frames inspired by the Cyberpunk trading card game.
  • Night City Tours: narrated tours from Richard Night, plus fun facts, quotes and insights at landmarks. As the post puts it, "there's still plenty to learn about a place, even after spending hundreds of hours in it."

Pure Xbox's 21 October preview flagged the same set of features ahead of release.

On Xbox, and what to do next

The update is free, and it's out now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Cyberpunk 2077 now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with progress carrying over between them.

One catch for older consoles: the post notes that Xbox One can still play the base game, but its last patch was on 8 November 2022. You'll need an Xbox Series X|S for later patches, including this one, and for the Phantom Liberty expansion.

If you've got a save sitting idle, 2.5 is a good excuse to go back. Start the Wakako gig for the new story, try dual wielding on a revolver build, and set up a fresh save library if you want to try a new V without cluttering your main run. If you're planning to try mods, the new in-game panel is the official route, and it's worth backing up your saves first.

CD Projekt's post doesn't mention a further update, so for now 2.5 is the latest version.
