Java mods or Bedrock add-ons?

Everything on this page is for Minecraft: Java Edition on PC. Bedrock (consoles, phones and Windows Bedrock) uses add-ons instead of mods. See how to install Bedrock add-ons, and if you are not sure which edition you have, read Java vs Bedrock.

How to install mods

The easy way is a modding launcher such as the CurseForge app, the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher: create an instance, pick your Minecraft version and loader, and install mods with a click. Prefer doing it by hand? Our mod install guide walks through Fabric, Forge and NeoForge step by step.

Are Minecraft mods free and safe?

Almost every mod is free. Mods are programs that run on your computer, so download them only from Modrinth, CurseForge or the mod's own official site, which is where every link on this page goes. A real mod is a .jar file; never run an .exe that claims to be one.

Do mods work in Minecraft Education?

No. Java mods only run on Java Edition. Minecraft Education is built on Bedrock and is managed by schools, so it has its own lessons, worlds and Code Builder instead of mods.

Loaders, versions and download counts from Modrinth API (https://api.modrinth.com) plus project pages on CurseForge, checked 30 October 2026. xarmo is not affiliated with these projects; every link goes to the official page.
