GTA 5

GTA 5 100% completion: what you actually need to do

You don't have to do everything in Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) to reach 100%. Several lists only need part of the total, so knowing the targets saves hours. Track it with our [100% checklist](tools/gta-5-100-percent-checklist/).

The ones people forget

  • Bronze in all 12 Flight School lessons.
  • Bronze in three rounds per weapon type at the Shooting Range.
  • Buying five money-making properties.
  • Buying a vehicle on the web.
  • Walking and playing with Chop.

Does the ending matter?

Your choice of heist approach won't block 100%, as long as you finish the story. Ending C keeps all three leads, so it's the easiest for clean-up. See the ending guide.

Do it in this order

  1. Finish the story with Ending C.
  2. Do the assassinations with the stock guide.
  3. Clear Strangers and Freaks.
  4. Finish hobbies and sports.
  5. Collect what's left, with the collectibles guide.

How long will it take?

Expect a lot more time than the story alone. Many players spend 60 to 80 hours or more on it. It's much quicker if you use a map for collectibles and do things in a sensible order.

How to check your progress

The game has its own 100% checklist in the pause menu, and it breaks your progress into categories, so you can see what's left. Trust this over any website, including ours.

Do cheats stop you getting 100%?

Cheats turn off trophies and achievements for that session, and reloading a save brings them back. If you're chasing 100%, don't use them when you're doing a mission that counts.

Random Events

These are the ones most people miss. When your radar flashes and a blue dot appears, drive to it. You need 14, and because they appear at particular places, you can miss them if you only follow missions. Do them as you find them.

Is it worth it?

If you enjoy the world, yes. You'll see parts of the game that most players miss. If it starts to feel like a chore, stop. There's a whole new game on the way, and nobody will ask for your percentage.
