How to make Roblox clothes: shirts, pants and T-shirts step by step

Classic Roblox clothing is just an image wrapped around the blocky body. Get the template right and the rest is painting.

Three kinds of classic clothing

Shirts and pants use the same 585×559 layout. Start from one of our templates, or design one in the Clothing Maker and skip straight to step 3.

TypeImageWhere it shows
T-shirtAny square image, e.g. 512×512A picture on the front of the torso
Shirt585×559 templateTorso and both arms
Pants585×559 templateLower torso and both legs

Reading the template

  • The big FRONT and BACK squares are 128×128 pixels, the torso sides (R and L) are 64×128, and the top and bottom (UP and DOWN) are 128×64.
  • Each arm or leg has four 64×128 sides (L, B, R, F) plus 64×64 ends (U at the shoulder or hip, D at the hand or foot).
  • Transparent pixels show the avatar's body colour underneath. That is how short sleeves and shorts work.
  • Keep shoe and glove details near the bottom of the arm and leg panels. If they climb too high they look like part of the sleeve or trouser.

Make, test, upload

  1. Paint your design over the template in any image editor, or download one from the Clothing Maker. Save it as PNG.
  2. Test it free in Roblox Studio before you pay anything.
  3. Upload it from the Creator Dashboard in a web browser, then wait for moderation. You can check the status under Avatar Items, Classics.

What uploading costs

  • Your account must be verified with a government ID, or linked to a parent account that is.
  • The upload fee is 80 Robux per submission, and it is not refunded if moderation rejects the item.
  • Putting a classic shirt, pants or T-shirt on sale also needs a 10 Robux publishing advance.
  • To publish and keep avatar items on the Marketplace you need Roblox Plus or a Premium 1000 or 2200 membership. See Roblox Plus explained.

Many newer user-made avatar bodies do not show 2D classic clothing. Classic clothing looks right on blocky avatars.

Keep it original

Upload only art you made or have the rights to. Every template on xarmo is original, so you are free to use, edit and upload them.
