Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale is live for the weekend, with Mega Mewtwo X headlining Saturday while Armored Mewtwo returns to five-star raids. The event runs on September 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time, so each region follows its own daytime event window.
Saturday's marquee battle is Mega Mewtwo X in Super Mega Raids. Niantic says Mega Mewtwo Y takes over that headline role on Sunday, while Armored Mewtwo appears in five-star raids on both days. That makes the weekend a split schedule rather than one identical raid lineup repeated twice.
Saturday puts Mega Mewtwo X in the spotlight
Mega Mewtwo X is the Super Mega Raid boss for September 5. The broader Mega Finale schedule rotates habitats and Mega Raid bosses through the day, with Pokémon tied to Mega Evolution appearing in event encounters. Pokémon caught from Mega Raids can also have a Mega Evolution-themed Special Background, adding a collection incentive beyond clearing each boss once.
Armored Mewtwo is a separate five-star raid encounter. The Pokémon GO team says it will be available on both Saturday and Sunday, marking a major return for a form that has been absent from regular raids for years. The official announcement also carries an important limitation: Shiny Armored Mewtwo is not available during Mega Finale. Players planning raid groups should therefore treat the return as a chance to catch the armored form, not as a new shiny hunt.
Niantic has also removed the normal Remote Raid limit for September 5 and 6. That gives players more flexibility to join groups across regions or fill difficult lobbies, although normal raid passes, remote participation costs and battle mechanics still apply.
Sunday changes the Mega headline
Mega Finale does not simply repeat Saturday on day two. Mega Mewtwo Y is scheduled to replace Mega Mewtwo X in Sunday's Super Mega Raids, while Armored Mewtwo remains in five-star raids. Players who want both Mega forms therefore need to watch the day-specific schedule.
The event is also tied to habitats, research and the GO Pass: Mega Finale, but the key Saturday change is the Mewtwo split: Mega Mewtwo X is the September 5 Super Mega Raid focus, Mega Mewtwo Y follows on September 6, and Armored Mewtwo spans the full weekend.
As always with a live-service event, the in-game Today view is the final practical check before spending raid resources. Niantic notes that event details can change, so players coordinating a group should confirm the current local schedule rather than assuming every Mewtwo encounter is available at every hour.
The weekend also gives ordinary catches a reason to matter. Event habitats rotate featured Pokémon during the day, so players who are not building a full raid schedule can still participate through wild encounters and research. That keeps Mega Finale from being only a raid-boss event, even though Mewtwo is the obvious headline.
For groups chasing Mega Energy, remember that Mega Mewtwo X and Y are day-specific. Spending every raid pass on Saturday will not produce Sunday's Mega Mewtwo Y encounters. Planning the weekend around the form you actually need is more useful than treating the two dates as interchangeable.
