Minecraft Dungeons II reveals the Sift

Mojang’s new Minecraft Dungeons II gameplay trailer introduces the Sift, a second dimension reached through mysterious rifts in the Overworld.

Minecraft Dungeons II has shown its clearest gameplay look yet, with Mojang and Xbox using a new trailer to reveal an entirely new dimension called the Sift. The footage arrived on August 20, ahead of the sequel's September 29 release.

The Sift is reached through mysterious rifts appearing across the Overworld. Mojang describes it as a strange, beautiful dimension filled with powerful threats, giving the sequel a way to expand beyond the familiar Minecraft biomes without abandoning the dungeon-crawler structure that defined the first game.

The sequel is getting a second world to explore

The original Minecraft Dungeons built its identity around compact action-RPG missions set inside Minecraft's visual language. Dungeons II is keeping the top-down combat and gear chase, but the Sift gives it a more obvious excuse to introduce enemies and environments that do not need to look like slightly remixed Overworld locations.

Mojang's own material says the sequel will include new missions, new enemies and new areas, with players collecting weapons, armour, artifacts, talismans and other gear to shape a hero. The new trailer adds a more concrete destination to that promise.

The Sift also helps explain why official descriptions of Dungeons II have talked about a threat affecting two worlds. Rather than treating the sequel as another tour through the same map palette, Mojang can move players between the Minecraft Overworld and a separate dimension with its own rules and visual identity.

The trailer is still a showcase, not a full systems breakdown. It demonstrates combat, co-op movement and the new environment, but it does not answer every progression or endgame question. That is worth keeping straight when a ninety-second video is doing a lot of the announcement work.

September 29 is now the date that matters

Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026. Mojang lists Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 among the supported platforms, and Xbox lists the game as a day-one Game Pass release on its own store.

The sequel supports solo play and multiplayer, with official descriptions continuing to frame teaming up with friends as a core part of the experience. Pre-orders currently include cosmetic bonuses such as hero skins, the Twisted cape and a Twisted chicken pet.

None of those details change the main news from the August 20 trailer: the sequel now has a named new dimension, not just a vague promise of unexplored lands. The Sift gives Dungeons II a stronger visual and world-building hook heading into launch.

There is still room for Mojang to explain how often players enter the Sift, whether its missions differ structurally from Overworld areas and how its gear connects to the rest of progression. Those are the questions worth watching next.

For now, Dungeons II has moved beyond screenshots and release-date copy. Players have actual gameplay footage to inspect, a second dimension to put a name to, and just over a month before the September 29 launch. That is enough to make the sequel feel substantially more concrete than it did after its initial reveal.
