Minecraft Dungeons II is almost here. Mojang's action-RPG sequel launches on September 29, and Xbox says it will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
That makes the timing unusually straightforward for anyone already inside Microsoft's subscription ecosystem: the game can be pre-installed through Game Pass now, while everyone else can buy it across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Mojang says up to four players can tackle it together online or in couch co-op.
The sequel is changing how its world fits together
The first Minecraft Dungeons was built around separate missions. Mojang says Dungeons II moves to an interconnected world instead, with routes that lead between familiar Minecraft-style areas and stranger places beyond the Overworld.
Rifts are a big part of that structure. Step through one and the party can end up in the Sift, the new dimension Mojang has been teasing throughout the sequel's campaign. The Sift brings its own landscapes, enemies and soul-charged visual language, but it is not the only change. Dungeons II also expands weapons, armour, artefacts, talismans and other gear so players can keep reshaping a build as the campaign gets tougher.
There is also a useful distinction for Minecraft fans following this week's Minecraft Live news. The Sift debuts as a playable dimension in Dungeons II on September 29. Mojang has separately confirmed that a version of the Sift is coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition next year. Those are related announcements, not the same release.
Game Pass gets the launch, but not every tier does
Xbox's September Game Pass update places Minecraft Dungeons II on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from September 29. That matters because the newer Game Pass structure does not treat every tier the same: Xbox's current plan comparison reserves day-one releases for Ultimate and PC Game Pass, while Premium receives selected new Xbox-published games later.
So "on Game Pass" needs a little more precision than it used to. If you are on Ultimate or PC Game Pass, the sequel is a day-one inclusion. If you use another plan, check the catalogue attached to your subscription rather than assuming the launch is included.
Xbox also lists Dungeons II as Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning a qualifying digital purchase can work across Xbox console and Windows PC with the same Xbox account where supported. Mojang's own product page separately confirms the wider console and PC launch.
For players deciding whether to jump in immediately, the cleanest reason to care is not a promise that the sequel is bigger or better. It is that Dungeons II is changing the shape of the campaign, putting an interconnected world and the Sift at the centre of a four-player action-RPG that launches in two days.
If you already have the right Game Pass plan, September 29 is an easy date to circle. Everyone else at least has a clear platform list and enough first-party detail to know what kind of sequel Mojang is building before spending anything.
Mojang also says the sequel does not require players to finish the first Minecraft Dungeons, so the September 29 release can work as a fresh entry point as well as a follow-up.
