God of War Laufey pre-orders open on September 29 at 10:00 a.m. local time, and Sony has paired the sales details with a closer look at how Faye fights in Santa Monica Studio's PS5 game.
The game is due on February 16, 2027 for PlayStation 5. Pre-ordering adds the Last Wish Armor Set, a Phranque Golden Leaves cosmetic appearance and an in-game resource pack. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a separate Dark Alchemy armour set, weapon cosmetics and related items, along with a digital mini art book and soundtrack.
Those extras are separate from the more interesting part of the September 28 update: the Serpent Bow and the systems built around it.
Faye's bow has two distinct aiming modes
Santa Monica Studio says a full press of the aim trigger puts Faye into a precision mode with longer draw distance and more accurate targeting. Specific hits can impair an enemy's movement or attacks, creating openings for follow-up melee strikes. Faye can also charge and stack up to five arrows for a heavier volley.
A half press instead uses a more mobile hip-fire stance. That mode is designed for close range, sending out clusters of arrows and letting Faye keep pressure on airborne enemies while moving between weapons and abilities.
The distinction matters because the bow is not being presented as a conventional ranged tool that sits outside the melee system. The studio describes it as something that can extend combos, create openings and shift between close and distant targets.
Different arrow types add another layer, with rapid-fire, explosive and multi-target options. The Serpent Bow can also equip Scales that alter its appearance and specialise its play style through perks. Unlockable skills expand the weapon further.
Bonuses are not the same thing as combat systems
Sony's announcement mixes edition contents and mechanical details, so it is worth keeping them separate. Dark Alchemy Bow Scales are a Digital Deluxe item, for example, but the underlying Scale system is part of the game's bow design. The same applies to cosmetic armour and resources: buying an edition changes the included extras, not the existence of the core aiming modes.
Gematsu independently confirms the September 29 pre-order timing and the February 16, 2027 PS5 release while reproducing the announced edition details.
There is still plenty Santa Monica Studio has not explained about the full progression model or how Faye's complete kit develops over the campaign. September 28 gives a clearer mechanical picture without answering every question.
For prospective players, the useful takeaway is simple: pre-orders start September 29, but the new information is not only about what comes in a box. The Serpent Bow is being built as a flexible combat system with precision, mobility and combo utility at its centre.
The release date itself remains months away, which is another reason not to turn the pre-order post into a verdict on the game. Sony has shown a slice of Faye's combat language and item structure, not the full balance, encounter design or progression curve.
Anyone considering a pre-order has enough information to compare edition contents now. Questions about how the bow feels across a full campaign, how often its different modes matter, and whether the upgrades remain interesting over time will need actual play closer to launch.
