FromSoftware Delays The Duskbloods to 2027 to Rework Rules and Balance After Its Network Test

FromSoftware's Switch 2-exclusive multiplayer game has slipped from 2026 to an undated 2027 window, with the studio pointing to rules and balance work after its August network test.

The Duskbloods won't make it out in 2026. FromSoftware has moved its Switch 2-exclusive multiplayer game into 2027, according to reports from Video Games Chronicle and Game Informer on October 29, and it hasn't put a day or month on the new window.

The announcement went out as a post on X, and we couldn't check that original post directly. Everything below about what the studio said comes from VGC's and Game Informer's reports of it.

What FromSoftware said

Both outlets report the same core message. VGC quotes the studio as saying development is at the "final adjustment stage", and that the extra time is about "final adjustments to game rules and balancing". Game Informer carries the line that settles the matter: "we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027." The studio also apologised to players who had been waiting for the game, according to the reports.

The reasoning points back to the game's closed network test in August. According to both reports, FromSoftware said players in the test showed interest in the game's combat, strategic depth and player expression, and the studio wants to push those areas further before launch. VGC notes that the game previously had a 2026 window but never a specific release date, so nobody is losing a day marked on the calendar. What's gone is the year.

Neither outlet reports a new date, a season or any other detail about when in 2027 the game might arrive. In Game Informer's reading of the statement, balance is the main reason for the move; nothing in either report suggests a change of platform or format.

The game and its network test

FromSoftware, the studio behind Dark Souls and Elden Ring, revealed The Duskbloods in April 2025 as a PvPvE title "with online multiplayer at its core", for up to eight players online, built for Switch 2 and planned for 2026. Game Informer describes it as multiplayer-only.

The August test had a bumpy start: as Nintendo Life reported at the time, players in the first session on August 21 couldn't log in to the game's servers, and FromSoftware closed that session. FromSoftware's statement, as reported, doesn't put the delay down to the servers. It says the studio saw interest in the game's core ideas during the test and wants time to adjust its rules and balance.

For players, the practical effect is simple. Anyone who bought a Switch 2 with The Duskbloods in mind now has no confirmed date to plan around, only a year. There's no word in either report on further network tests before launch.

What happens next

FromSoftware hasn't said when it will share a release date. Until it does, the only confirmed facts are the ones above: the game is still a Switch 2 exclusive, it's now aimed at 2027, and the stated reason is rules and balance work after what the studio saw in its network test.

Finn's take: This doesn't read like a typical FromSoftware delay to me, because The Duskbloods isn't a typical FromSoftware game. In a single-player Souls game, an overtuned boss becomes a rite of passage. With eight people sharing a match, the rules decide whether it feels like a fair fight or a lottery, and choosing to spend extra time there rather than shipping and patching later tells you where the studio thinks the risk sits. A rough first test session and a promising set of ideas can both be true at once. I'd rather wait for a fair fight than queue for an unfair one.
