Fortnite Crew is about to change what it's for. From December 5, Epic is ending the monthly Crew Packs and the OG Pass, and paying subscribers in extra V-Bucks instead, with the biggest payouts going to people who stick around.
The price isn't moving. Xarmo couldn't check Epic's announcement directly, so every detail below is attributed to the outlets that reported it: GamesRadar+, VGC and Destructoid.
What you lose
The headline cut is the monthly skin. VGC reports that December's Crew Pack will be the last one. GamesRadar+ calls that the one real downside, noting that Crew skins have been a big reason to subscribe because, up to now, they've never been offered any other way, including in the regular item shop.
The OG Pass goes too. According to VGC, it ends on December 5, with Epic promising "a dramatic conclusion at the end of Chapter 1: OG Season X". VGC says the "next era of Fortnite OG" arrives in late 2027. Destructoid adds that it's unclear whether the OG Pass will come back with it.
What you get instead
The base payout goes up, and then it climbs. Crew currently pays 800 V-Bucks a month. GamesRadar+ notes that's down from 1,000, the amount for most of Crew's life, after a cut earlier this year that followed Epic's V-Bucks price increases.
Here's the new ladder, using the amounts VGC lists and the tier names Destructoid reports:
- Core (1 to 2 months): 1,000 V-Bucks a month
- Bronze (3 to 5 months): 1,200 V-Bucks a month
- Silver (6 to 11 months): 1,400 V-Bucks a month
- Gold (12 months or more): 1,600 V-Bucks a month
You won't start from zero. VGC reports that existing membership length counts, so anyone subscribed for more than 12 months goes straight to 1,600. GamesRadar+ says your tier is based on consecutive months subscribed in the last year as of December 5, so a gap in your subscription matters.
Lapsed players get a window as well. If you resubscribe in December, your starting tier will "reflect your most recent continuous subscription period over the past 12 months", GamesRadar+ quotes Epic as saying.
There's an XP perk on top. GamesRadar+ and Destructoid both report that Crew members get 20% more XP, while teammates who play with them get a 10% bonus.
What stays the same
The rest of the bundle survives. VGC reports that the Battle Pass, Music Pass, Lego Pass and Rocket Pass Premium for Rocket League are all still included. It lists the price at $11.99 / £9.99 a month, and Destructoid confirms the price isn't changing. VGC also notes that Crew remains available as part of Xbox's Game Pass Ultimate.
One more bit of good news for old subscribers: GamesRadar+ reports that all remaining Legacy Styles, the alternate colour styles for certain Crew skins, back blings and pickaxes, will be unlocked in December for everyone who owns those cosmetics, whether they're still subscribed or not.
Beau's take: This is a clean trade if you play for the shop and a real loss if you play for the collection. Crew's exclusive skin was the thing that made it feel like a club. Now it's a loyalty scheme, which is a fair deal for anyone on a long streak, since 1,600 V-Bucks is double today's payout. If you're thinking of cancelling and coming back later, check your streak first, because a gap could cost you a tier.
