Nintendo has given Pikmin its own day on the calendar, and it arrives with something you can actually play. The company now marks 1 November as Pikmin Day, and a free demo of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy follows on 2 November, according to 4Gamer and Game Informer.
The news came in a surprise Pikmin Day presentation that Nintendo released on 31 October. Game Informer reports that Shigeru Miyamoto fronted it. 4Gamer says Nintendo has set 1 November as Pikmin Day from now on, and explains the date: three ones in a row, like three Pikmin standing side by side. Nintendo Life puts it the same way.
What the demo includes
According to 4Gamer, the demo covers the opening area of Pikmin 4 plus two Dandori Academy stages. Game Informer describes the same mix: one standard level and two Dandori Academy levels. The detail most players will care about comes from 4Gamer: save data from the demo carries over to the full game. So anything you get done on 2 November isn't lost when you buy it. We couldn't find a written Nintendo announcement of the demo, so these details come from the two outlets' reports of the presentation.
The full Switch 2 Edition launches on 12 November 2026, according to Nintendo's US store page. That listing sets out what the edition adds to the 2023 Switch game: improved high-resolution visuals in TV and handheld mode, voice commands for Oatchi through the Switch 2 system microphone, and Dandori Battles you can share with a friend through GameShare, locally or online through GameChat, even if they don't own the game. The same page says the edition includes the Switch game plus an upgrade pack, and anyone who already owns Pikmin 4 on Switch can buy just the upgrade pack.
Dandori Academy, explained
Dandori Academy is the edition's headline addition. Nintendo's store page calls it "an extensive series of Dandori exam stages" that earn in-game medals, and says 72 stages will be released over time at a range of difficulties. Game Informer describes the exams as time trials you can practise as often as you like. The catch: on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you get one chance to post your best time.
Short films and Pikmin Bloom
The presentation wasn't only about Pikmin 4. 4Gamer reports that Nintendo is starting Hello! Pikmin, a series of original Pikmin short films, with one released each month on the Nintendo Today! smartphone app and elsewhere. November gets two: one on 1 November and another later in the month. Game Informer says Miyamoto brought on actress Fuka Koshiba to introduce a Pikmin short during the presentation.
Game Informer also reports that secret caves are coming to the mobile game Pikmin Bloom later this year. Players will find maps to them in Bloom, and playing Pikmin 4 turns up maps too. One thing didn't come up: Game Informer notes there was no sign of Pikmin 1 and 2 joining Nintendo Switch Online, though both can still be bought on the eShop.
Nintendo Life summed it up with a shrug: there was "nothing in the way of game news to report in this one", beyond another look at the Switch 2 Edition, Pikmin Bloom and the new shorts.
Riley's take: Fair. But a demo with save transfer, ten days before launch, is the useful kind of nothing. Dandori Academy sounds like Pikmin's most competitive idea in years, and giving you a single scored attempt on each weekend day is a clever way to make a speedrun feel like an event. I'll take a holiday built on the number one, too.
