Kena: Scars of Kosmora is moving out of 2026 and into 2027, with developer Ember Lab saying it needs more time to polish the larger sequel.

The studio announced the new window on October 1 through PlayStation Blog. Scars of Kosmora is planned for PlayStation 5 in physical and digital editions, with a digital PC release through Steam and Epic Games Store.

There is no new exact release date yet, so 2027 is the useful part of the announcement. Treating it as anything more precise would get ahead of Ember Lab.

Why the delay happened

Ember Lab says the sequel is broader and deeper than Kena: Bridge of Spirits and that moving into 2027 gives the team more time to polish the expanded experience.

That is a developer explanation rather than an independently measured assessment of development progress, but it does tell players what changed: the previous 2026 window is gone.

The October update also gives a clearer picture of the game itself. Kena remains a Spirit Guide, dealing with the pain and corruption that can remain when spirits cannot move on peacefully. This time she travels to the island of Kosmora after her childhood friend Orfio points her toward answers about her past and her role.

Kosmora is built around four elements

Ember Lab describes Kosmora as a place shaped by four interconnected cultures and ancient Spirit Guide traditions tied to elemental forces.

Alchemystic Temples are a major part of the structure. The studio says these dungeon-like spaces combine challenges with rewards that change how Kena progresses through the adventure.

Kena also has a crystalline canine companion that works as both a mount and an active gameplay partner. Ember Lab says the companion can help in combat and in solving Alchemystic puzzles.

Those details make the delay announcement more useful than a simple calendar change. Players now have a better idea of how the sequel is expanding its world and traversal rather than merely becoming a larger map.

The important part is the new boundary

The safest way to read the update is simple: Kena: Scars of Kosmora is now a 2027 game, and Ember Lab has not supplied a narrower date.

Gematsu independently reported the same delay and platform plan, noting that the PlayStation 5 version is planned both physically and digitally while PC will be distributed through Steam and Epic Games Store.

Until Ember Lab sets a specific day, wishlist pages and retailer placeholders should not be treated as release confirmation.

For now, the October 1 news is a schedule reset paired with a substantial story overview. The sequel is still coming to PS5 and PC, but the extra development time pushes Kena's next journey into next year.

The studio's description also helps set expectations about structure. Ember Lab still calls Scars of Kosmora a character-focused linear adventure, even though the scope is larger and players can move away from the main route to explore. That is different from promising a fully open-world game.

The new canine companion reinforces that expansion without changing the basic identity of the series. It supports traversal, combat and puzzle solving, giving Ember Lab another way to widen Kena's toolset while keeping Spirit Guiding and character-driven exploration at the centre. Those are announced design goals, not a verdict on how well the final systems work.
