Sony delays its Pulse Elevate speakers days before launch over a production issue

Sony's first wireless speakers were due on November 12. A production issue found in quality testing has pushed them back, and there's no new date yet.

Got Pulse Elevate on pre-order? Don't clear the space under your monitor just yet. Sony has pulled the November 12 launch of its first wireless speakers, less than a week out, and there's no new date. Kotaku reports no refund policy has been announced either, so if you've paid, your retailer is the one to ask.

The notice is short. An update dated November 6 now sits at the top of the speakers' original PlayStation Blog announcement: "As part of our ongoing quality testing of Pulse Elevate speakers, we have identified a production issue with the product and have made the decision to delay the launch."

Why? "The additional time will allow us to ensure the product will deliver the experience we intended for our players," the update says. Sony apologises and adds: "We look forward to bringing Pulse Elevate to players soon." Which production issue, and how soon, it doesn't say.

What's missing

Kotaku reported the delay on November 7 and spells out the gaps. No new timeline. No release date. No refund policy. It also notes hardware influencers had seemingly already received their units.

Kotaku says the cause is unspecified. In its own framing, it sets the delay against a rough stretch for Sony hardware, with the company apparently struggling to keep up with demand amid component shortages and rising costs. Sony's update doesn't connect the speakers to any of that. It mentions one thing only: a production issue found in testing.

What was supposed to arrive

These have been a long time coming. Sony revealed Pulse Elevate during a State of Play on September 24, 2025, introducing them in the original post as "the first wireless speakers developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment". That's more than a year of build-up for a launch that has now stalled at the last step.

The launch details were set in August, in an earlier update on the same blog page. Launch from November 12, 2026. A recommended price of US$219.99, €219.99 or £199.99. Pre-orders from September 1. Midnight Black was down for a global release, while White was limited to the US, UK and a list of European countries, plus select retailers elsewhere.

So if you got in when pre-orders opened, that's more than two months of waiting, with the finish line now gone.

The kit is a pair of desktop speakers that, in Sony's words, builds on the audio experience of the Pulse Elite headset and Pulse Explore earbuds. Sony's announcement lists:

  • planar magnetic drivers in each speaker, plus built-in woofers for bass
  • a mic in the right speaker with AI-enhanced noise rejection
  • PlayStation Link for low-latency, lossless audio on PS5, PC, Mac and PlayStation Portal
  • a PlayStation Link USB adapter that works with USB-C ports
  • Bluetooth for a phone

Sony pitched that mic as "headset-free voice chat for desktop gaming": talk to the squad with nothing clamped on your ears.

What to do now

Not much. Keep an eye on that PlayStation Blog page, because it's where Sony posted this update. If you've got an order in, check with whoever took your money, since Sony hasn't said what happens to pre-orders.

The speakers aren't cancelled. They're just not showing up on Thursday.
