Fading Echo launches on PS5 with reality-shifting elemental combat

Fading Echo is out on PS5, combining water manipulation, elemental reactions and reality shifting across combat, puzzles and exploration.

Fading Echo launched on PlayStation 5 on September 22, bringing Emeteria's elemental action-adventure RPG to Sony's console with a combat and exploration system built around water manipulation and shifting between alternate versions of the same world.

The game follows One, a young hero trying to save Corel from a force called the Paradox. Emeteria describes Corel as a fractured world where different realities overlap, and the central mechanic lets One move between those versions of a space during exploration, puzzle solving and combat.

Water is both movement and weapon

Fading Echo calls its water-like substance Æther. One can manipulate it directly, but the system goes beyond throwing water attacks. The developer says One can dissolve into a droplet to travel through pipes or narrow gaps, build momentum for movement, and use water in combat to set up reactions with other substances.

Those interactions are the main idea behind the combat system. Water can combine with hazards and materials such as lava, toxic waste and Paradox corruption, creating different effects rather than relying on a single fixed combo sequence. Emeteria says encounters are designed to reward experimenting with the environment and changing tactics based on the elements available nearby.

Reality shifting extends the same idea. A route blocked in one version of Corel may be open in another, while an element needed for a puzzle can exist only on the other side of a shift. In combat, changing realities can also alter hazards and resources around an encounter, giving the player a different set of options without leaving the area.

A single-player PS5 release with a demo

The PlayStation Blog launch post confirms that Fading Echo is a single-player adventure on PS5 and says a demo became available alongside the full release. The PlayStation Store independently lists New Tales SAS as publisher, a September 22 release date, offline single-player support and a PS5 version.

The store description also reinforces the game's emphasis on elemental reactions and movement. It describes using Æther for waves and close-range attacks, travelling through tubes, shifting between Corel and its alternate "Shadows", and combining substances to change combat and exploration.

The story framing supports those mechanics rather than replacing them. Emeteria says Paradox Corruption is spreading across Corel, with Maddock positioned as the central antagonist. One also travels with a small group of allies whose relationships to Corel and to One are part of the narrative. The developer is careful to describe the reality-shifting system as useful across the whole game, not as a puzzle-only trick.

The PlayStation Store lists 22 accessibility features for the PS5 version, including options around text presentation, colour and visual comfort. Those listings describe available platform features; they do not by themselves show how every option works in each encounter.

Fading Echo is not presented as a traditional turn-based RPG or a loot-driven multiplayer game. Its pitch is closer to an action-adventure built around a shared systems toolbox: movement, elemental reactions, puzzles and reality shifts all use the same underlying mechanics.

That design gives the September 22 launch a clear identity. The game is asking players to solve problems by changing the environment and the version of reality they are standing in, rather than treating combat, traversal and puzzles as separate modes. Players who want to see whether that approach clicks can try the PS5 demo before moving to the full game.
