Good news if you've got Conan Exiles sitting in your PlayStation library: the overhauled version is coming to PS5 in early 2027, and you won't pay a cent for it. Funcom confirmed on the PlayStation Blog on October 27 that "all players who own Conan Exiles on PlayStation will get the Enhanced version for PlayStation 5 for free." In the same post it announced Aloft, a co-op survival sandbox set among floating islands, making its console debut on PS5 in the same window. Neither game has an exact date yet.
What Enhanced actually changes
Conan Exiles Enhanced is not a patch, it's a rebuild of the presentation. Funcom lists improved environments, characters, lighting and effects, a redesigned UI, and performance and quality-of-life work across the board. Push Square, which watched the trailer comparing the PS4 version with Enhanced, says it runs on Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite geometry and Lumen global illumination, and calls it "a serious visual upgrade". It also notes Enhanced first arrived on PC earlier this year, so console players are getting a version PC players have already had time with.
The practical stuff matters more than the screenshots, so here it is straight from the blog post:
- Own Conan Exiles on PlayStation? Enhanced for PS5 is free.
- Buying fresh? The PS4 and PS5 versions are both on sale, and buying either gets you the other.
- Your Bazaar items and DLC carry over from PS4 to PS5.
- Moving between the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah is more seamless, though Siptah is still a separate purchase.
- The new Legacy of the Giant-Kings story arc is included at console launch.
One question the post doesn't answer, and that Push Square's commenters were already asking: whether copies claimed through PlayStation Plus count as "owning" the game for the free upgrade. Funcom hasn't said, so don't assume either way until it does. PS5 Pro enhancements aren't mentioned for either game.
And Aloft
Aloft is the gentler half of the announcement. It's a cozy co-op sandbox survival game where you turn floating islands into skyships, build a home in the clouds and explore an open world alone or with friends. It's been in Early Access on PC since January 2025, and Funcom says the PS5 version arrives with every Early Access update plus the 1.0 release, including five major content updates that added wildlife, puzzles, combat improvements, glider customisation and more to explore. The developer, Astrolabe, is described in the post as having grown "from a small group of friends" into the studio it is now. If Conan's sun-baked brutality isn't your thing, Push Square sums up the contrast nicely: Aloft "looks quite pleasant".
Why it matters
Free next-gen upgrades for live survival games aren't guaranteed, and Funcom carrying Bazaar purchases and DLC across removes the usual reason to hesitate. For anyone who drifted away from Conan Exiles on PS4, Enhanced is a clean reason to jump back in without rebuying anything, and for newcomers Push Square's read is that it's "the ideal way to start". Aloft, meanwhile, gives PS5 owners another co-op building game for the quieter end of the genre, one with a year and a half of PC updates behind it.
What's next is a date. Funcom says exact release dates for both games will be announced later; the only confirmed window is early 2027. Until then, if you want to be sure you qualify for the free Enhanced upgrade, the safe bet is owning Conan Exiles on PlayStation outright rather than through a subscription.
