Mods

Why unauthorised GTA mods are a bad idea

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) mod menus and "free money" tools look like shortcuts. In practice, they can cost you your account, your saves or your password, and they spoil the game for everyone else in your session.

You can lose your account

Online modding is banned, so using a mod menu in GTA Online puts your access and your progress at risk. If you've spent real money on the game, that's at risk too.

Many of them are malware

A cheat tool asks you to run unknown software, and often to switch off your antivirus first. That's exactly what someone stealing passwords or game accounts wants you to do.

"Free money" and "modded accounts" are scams

  • Sites that promise free GTA$ usually want your login, a payment or a download.
  • Sellers of modded accounts can take the account back, and the account can still be banned.
  • Nobody needs your password to give you anything in the game.

It ruins other people's games

Most people don't mind what you do alone in Story Mode. Online, a mod menu can crash sessions, wreck races and take away the fun for players who did nothing wrong.

Mods can break your game

Even a harmless mod can stop working after an update, or corrupt a save. Keep a backup, and keep modded and unmodded copies separate.

What to do instead

  • Use the built-in Story Mode cheats. They're free and they're part of the game.
  • Read which mods Rockstar tolerates before you install anything.
  • Try roleplay on FiveM instead of modding GTA Online.
  • If you've already run a suspicious file, scan your PC and change your passwords from a clean device.

What about "undetected" menus?

Sellers often claim that their menu can't be caught. That's a sales pitch, and you've got no way to check it. The person selling it doesn't lose anything if your account is banned.

What if you've been offered GTA$ by another player?

Be careful. Modded money dropped in a session can get your account flagged, even if you didn't ask for it. Move to a new session, and don't pick it up.

Why do people use them?

Mostly because GTA Online can feel slow and expensive, and a menu looks like a quick fix. We get it, but there are better answers. A good money routine gets you far further, and you'll keep what you earn. If you want to mess around, use Story Mode cheats, which won't put your account at risk.
