Bushiroad's anime crossover card game finally has a date for its digital debut. Weiß Schwarz Online launches on March 24, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and Steam, Inven Global reports from a Bushiroad press release, and the game's Steam store page now lists the same March 24, 2027 release date. In Japan, the release lands a day later, on March 25, 2027, according to Inven Global.
For anyone new to it, Weiß Schwarz is a character card game built from cards based on popular anime, games and VTubers: you collect cards from the series you like and build decks out of them, as Inven Global puts it. On the Steam page, Bushiroad bills it as the world's No. 1 card game by number of featured titles, now celebrating its 18th anniversary.
Two editions, four series each
This is the bit to decide before launch. Inven Global reports that the game will be sold as two versions, Weiß Edition and Schwarz Edition, each with four titles at launch:
- Weiß Edition: Aogiri High School, Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko, The Quintessential Quintuplets and BanG Dream! MyGO!!!!!
- Schwarz Edition: THE IDOLM@STER SHINY COLORS, Sword Art Online, Touhou Project and BanG Dream! Ave Mujica
More are on the way. Bushiroad has shown a roadmap for downloadable content that adds new cards, with eight more titles due by autumn 2027 and details to come on Steam and social media, according to Inven Global.
How you'll actually play
The Steam page splits the game into three main ways to play:
- Story Mode, where you play as Hinata Amamiya, a second-year student who has just transferred to Tenkou Academy, a school where disputes are settled with Weiß Schwarz. As you progress through the story, more characters become available to battle in CPU Fight.
- CPU Fight, against original characters made for the game, with three difficulty levels.
- Online Fight, which covers casual Free Fight, Ranked Fight for climbing the ranks, and Room Fight, where you share a Room ID to play a specific opponent.
There's an optional tutorial at the start of the story, plus a set of tips explaining rules and abilities in detail, the Steam page says. Results earn WSP, which you can spend in the shop on card packs, decks and supplies to strengthen your deck.
Inven Global reports that the game supports Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Korean and Spanish. Steam lists Latin American Spanish for that last one.
What the PC version needs
The Steam page lists the developers as FURYU Corporation and LANCARSE Ltd., with Bushiroad publishing. The minimum spec is Windows 11 on a 64-bit system, an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 2300X, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon HD 7750 with 2 GB, and 16 GB of storage. The page also says plainly that Steam Deck is not supported, which is worth knowing if you were hoping to take it on the go without a Switch. The developers' content note on the page says the game may include some nudity or sexual content and general mature content.
It isn't available yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam now. Inven Global also reports that Bushiroad is taking the game to hands-on demo events around the world, listed on the Weiß Schwarz website.
Beau's take: A proper Ranked Fight mode alongside CPU opponents with three difficulty settings is the right mix for a card game this deep: learn against the computer, then go find out where you really stand. The split editions are the catch. Pick the one with the series you actually want to build around, because the roadmap only promises more titles by autumn 2027, not which ones.
