Got a name, lost a release date. A day after Bethesda finally named *The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel*, reports say the game is still years out, with 2029 the year being floated. None of that is confirmed. Bethesda hasn't given a release window.
Here's who said what. Nintendo Life carries a Bluesky post from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier: "Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!" In a follow-up quoted by GamesRadar+, Schreier pushed back on the idea that this was a guess: "It's not a prediction," adding, "I know the time frame the game is targeting."
A quick sourcing note: we couldn't check these social posts directly, so every claim here is credited to the outlet reporting it. That goes for Bethesda's own statement too, which we're quoting from VGC's report of a separate social post.
Where 2029 comes from
This bit is worth reading carefully. In the posts quoted by those two outlets, Schreier doesn't name a year. "More than 2 years" from November 2026 lands you somewhere after November 2028, and that's as far as his quoted words go.
The 2029 figure comes from others. GamesRadar+ says Windows Central's Jez Corden claims to have heard about a 2029 release window. It also quotes content creator JuiceHead saying "2029 is indeed the word on the block", while noting that JuiceHead's information dates from before Xbox got its new CEO, Asha Sharma, and began the "reset" GamesRadar+ describes.
So you've got one named reporter who says they know the target and two other voices pointing at the same year. None of that is an announcement, and targets can move.
What Bethesda has actually said
Not much, and it says so. Video Games Chronicle reports that the title appeared at the end of a video called Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios, with executive producer Todd Howard saying it was "a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called." In a separate post, VGC says, Bethesda added that "it'll be some time before we're ready to share more".
GamesRadar+ says Bethesda isn't giving official word on release plans right now. VGC says further details have yet to be confirmed, though it reckons the name lends credibility to reports that the game is set in Hammerfell. Treat the setting as unconfirmed as well.
How long that wait would be
If 2029 proves right, GamesRadar+ works it out at 11 years after the game's first teaser and 18 years after *Skyrim*. Nintendo Life points out that even Schreier's "more than 2 years" would likely put release at least a decade after the game's E3 2018 announcement.
Nintendo Life also carries the first half of Schreier's post, which argues many people forget the game was only announced in 2018 alongside *Starfield* to soften the blow of *Fallout 76*: "Don't worry, even though we're making a multiplayer game we've got single-player stuff coming too!" That's Schreier's account of the thinking, not something Bethesda has said.
For now, the useful part is simple. Don't plan a PC upgrade around *Sentinel*, and don't read anything about platforms or dates as locked in until Bethesda says it.
Jax's take: The name was a nice little treat, but it's a teaser, not a countdown. "It'll be some time" is Bethesda telling you to go make a coffee, and Schreier's note reads like a warning to make it a big one. If your backlog is waiting on this game, I'd stop waiting. Plenty else will come out before it does.
