Phantom Blade Zero has sold more than four million copies in roughly its first 72 hours, according to developer S-GAME. The figure arrives alongside strong early review scores.

S-GAME announced the milestone on the game's official X account. We couldn't check that post directly, so the details below come from the outlets that reported it: Famitsu, 4Gamer, RPG Site and Gematsu.

What S-GAME announced

Famitsu reports that the game passed four million copies sold about 72 hours after launch, and that S-GAME made the announcement on its official X account (@pbzero_official) in a post dated 2 November. Famitsu describes S-GAME as a studio based in Beijing and Los Angeles.

RPG Site quotes the post directly: "Phantom Blade Zero has sold over 4 million copies in just 72 hours!" It adds that the studio thanked players "from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support!" RPG Site says the figure covers PS5 and PC combined.

The announcement doesn't break the total down by platform or storefront, and none of the reports gives a split.

The launch so far

Phantom Blade Zero came out on 29 October. Famitsu puts the release at 11:00 Japan time. According to Gematsu, it is available digitally on PS5 and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, and a physical PS5 edition is due in 2027. RPG Site lists the standard edition at $59.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $69.99.

On Steam, Famitsu cites SteamDB, a third-party tracker of Steam data, as showing a peak of more than 830,000 concurrent players after launch.

The reception numbers have held up too. 4Gamer reports that, at the time of its writing, the game had a Metascore of 88 and about 48,000 Steam user reviews, 89% of them positive, which gives the game a "Very Positive" rating on the store.

A patch is on the way

4Gamer reports that S-GAME says it is aware of player feedback and plans to release a bug-fix patch soon. None of the reports gives a date for the patch or says which problems it will fix.

What kind of game it is

Famitsu describes Phantom Blade Zero as a wuxia action game set in a "kung fu punk" world that blends kung fu with steampunk. You play Soul, who is fatally wounded in a duel and has 66 days left to live. Famitsu says the combat is built around combos, perfect guards and perfect dodges, and that the developer used thousands of hours of motion capture to animate it.

What's still unclear

S-GAME's figure counts copies sold. It doesn't say how many of them were Deluxe Editions, how the total splits between PS5 and PC, or how much came from pre-orders before launch day. The four-million figure also comes from the developer itself rather than an independent tracker, so treat it as S-GAME's own count until a breakdown appears.

Mason's take: Four million in three days is the headline, but the reviews are the more useful signal. A sales spike like this mostly measures how well the hype worked; tens of thousands of mostly positive Steam reviews in the same window suggest people are enjoying it once they start playing. The real test is the next month: whether that patch lands quickly, and whether S-GAME can keep players around once the launch-week excitement fades.
