Ubisoft is bringing Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition to Nintendo Switch 2, putting two of the series' older standouts onto Nintendo hardware. The announcement is clear about the games and platform, but it does not give them a release date, price or Switch 2-specific feature list yet.
That makes the useful news fairly narrow: two established Far Cry releases are coming to Switch 2, and Ubisoft is presenting the move as the franchise returning to Nintendo hardware "for the first time in ages." The company's announcement names both Classic Editions but does not attach a launch window.
Two very different versions of Far Cry 3 are making the trip
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is the single-player version of Ubisoft's 2012 open-world shooter. Ubisoft's current Far Cry 3 page describes the Classic Edition as an updated version for modern platforms, built around exploring a dangerous island, mixing gunfights with stealth and long-range combat, and meeting a cast that includes Vaas Montenegro.
Blood Dragon uses the same broader Far Cry formula for a deliberately ridiculous retro-future detour. Ubisoft's official Blood Dragon page puts players in the boots of Sergeant Rex Colt, a cyber-commando in an exaggerated 1980s-style vision of the future, complete with cyborgs, mutants and laser-firing Blood Dragons.
That contrast is part of why packaging the pair for Switch 2 makes sense. Far Cry 3 is the more grounded tropical survival story, while Blood Dragon is a compact neon parody that turns the series' systems into something much stranger. They share a name and mechanical ancestry without feeling like the same campaign twice.
What Ubisoft has not said matters just as much. There is no confirmed Switch 2 release date in the announcement, and the company has not detailed resolution, frame rate, control changes, GameShare support or other platform-specific enhancements. Any claim about those features would be guesswork until Ubisoft or Nintendo publishes more.
The timing gives the ports a useful second life
Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal all received 60fps updates for PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S earlier in 2026. The new Switch 2 announcement is separate from those updates, but it continues Ubisoft's recent effort to keep older Far Cry games accessible on current hardware.
For Switch 2 owners, the appeal is easy to understand even before the technical details arrive. Far Cry 3 remains one of the entries most closely associated with the series' open-world identity, while Blood Dragon is still the franchise's oddball side project. Putting both on a portable Nintendo system creates a new way to revisit them without pretending they are new games.
The announcement also leaves the door open for Nintendo to publish its own store details later. The next useful information will be practical rather than dramatic: release date, price, performance targets and whether these Switch 2 editions add anything beyond bringing the existing Classic Editions to the platform. Until then, the confirmed part is simple. Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon are coming to Switch 2, and Ubisoft has not yet said when.
