Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced's Final Major Update Adds New Game+ and a Nightmare Difficulty

Title Update 1.0.8 is the last major content drop for Black Flag Resynced: New Game+ up to five cycles, a per-category Nightmare difficulty, new animations and cosmetics, and six hidden chests, with only smaller patches to follow.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has its last big patch. Ubisoft released Title Update 1.0.8 on October 26 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and its news post calls it "the last major content milestone" for the remake, with smaller quality-of-life patches continuing after it. The headline additions are a New Game+ mode that runs up to five cycles deep, a Nightmare difficulty you can switch on at any point, and a scatter of new animations, cosmetics and hidden chests. If you finished Edward Kenway's story over the winter and parked it, this is the update that gives you a reason to raise the Jackdaw's sails again.

New Game+: what comes with you, what resets

New Game+ is the meat of it. Start a fresh run and, according to Ubisoft, you keep your gear, weapons and trinkets, every Jackdaw and ship upgrade, pets, currency and resources, visual customisation, and your Hideout and Kenway's Fleet progress. What resets is the story itself: active quests, quest items, map discovery, location progress and the forts. There is a small wrinkle worth knowing before you dive in. Jackdaw and Hideout upgrades are retained, but you have to play through the story far enough to unlock access to them again, so your fully kitted ship exists but is not immediately at your disposal.

VGC's breakdown of the patch notes fills in the details Ubisoft's post skims. Officers have to be recruited again and forts retaken, and each New Game+ cycle is tougher than the last, with Elite Soldiers turning up more often and maximum-rank ships patrolling the Caribbean, up to the fifth cycle. There is also a new currency, Escudos, earned through challenges and chests, which buys items exclusive to New Game+; VGC reports that Reales can be swapped for Escudos at the General Store if you would rather spend your existing pile. In practical terms, that means a second run with a different rhythm: you start strong but have to re-earn the world around you.

Nightmare, and the rest

Nightmare difficulty is the other big switch, and it is available to everyone regardless of story progress. Ubisoft's description is blunt: enemies hit harder and attack more often, parry and dodge windows tighten, ranged attacks come faster, detection ranges go up and naval fights get nastier. VGC adds that you can die in a single hit. The useful part is that it is not all-or-nothing. Nightmare can be set separately for combat, stealth, naval and activities, so you can make the sword fights punishing while leaving the sailing alone, or the other way round.

Beyond those two modes, 1.0.8 adds extra takedown, microkill and double-takedown animations across weapon types. They play randomly, and you cannot assign them, so treat them as flavour rather than a system. There are new outfits, trinkets, sails, crew customisation options and pet appearances, unlocked through exploration, New Game+, activities and hidden challenges, and six new hidden community chests spread across the map, some of which VGC says carry rewards players asked for. The patch also carries a long list of bug fixes covering gameplay, the world, UI, audio, controls and several side quests, which is the less glamorous reason to update even if you never touch New Game+.

Why it matters, and what to do now

Resynced landed earlier this year to strong notices, with VGC's own review calling it the best Assassin's Creed since the original Black Flag, and Ubisoft said in its first two weeks that it had beaten the publisher's annual expectations. Calling time on major content updates this soon is a statement that the remake is finished rather than abandoned: everything substantial Ubisoft intended to add is now in the game, and the ongoing patches are maintenance. For players, that removes the wait-and-see question. What is on disc and in the current download is the complete package.

If you want in, the update is live now through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft+ on PC, and on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A sensible order is to finish any first run you have going, since New Game+ resets story progress, then start a plus cycle and decide per-category how much Nightmare you can stomach. Ubisoft has not announced any further content milestones, and nothing in its post or VGC's report points to DLC or expansions, so for now the roadmap ends here, with bug fixes to follow as needed.
