See-through controllers are back. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony has announced the Prism Collection, transparent DualSense controllers and matching PS5 console covers in three colours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Pre-orders open on November 10, 2026, and the collection launches from February 4, 2027.
The most useful detail sits near the bottom of Sony's post: the controllers are going global, but the console covers are sold exclusively direct from PlayStation where it sells direct, and only in limited quantities through select retailers elsewhere. Where you live decides how easy they'll be to get.
Prices and pre-order times
According to Sony, the recommended retail prices are:
- DualSense controller: $84.99 / £74.99 / €84.99 / ¥12,480
- PS5 console cover: $74.99 / £64.99 / €74.99 / ¥9,980
Sony notes that actual retailer prices and availability may vary. VGC's report lists the same prices and dates.
Pre-orders start on November 10 at 10am local time, both direct from PlayStation where that's available and through participating retailers. In the US, that's 7am PT / 10am ET on direct.playstation.com. In the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, it's 10am local time through playstation.com's hardware store.
Launch starts on February 4, 2027, though Sony says the exact launch date and availability can vary by country or region.
Who can actually get the covers
This is the part worth reading twice. Sony says the DualSense controllers will be available globally. The console covers are different: they're sold exclusively direct from PlayStation in the regions where it sells direct, which Sony lists as the US, UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Everywhere else, Sony says the covers will be available "in limited quantities through select retailers."
For readers outside those regions, including Australia, Sony's post gives no local price. The controllers are described as available globally, while the covers will only be available in limited quantities through select retailers.
What the design is going for
Sony's Colour, Material and Finish team leaned hard into nostalgia. "We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers," designer Leo Cardoso said in the post. "We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late '90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5's industrial design."
His colleague Satoshi Aoyagi explained how it's put together. The high-gloss clear finish runs across the back of the controller, giving a look at the technology inside while keeping a monochromatic look, and a metallic finish on the middle cover ties the surfaces together. On the colours, Aoyagi described "a vibrant orange that subtly takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps, a deep hunter green that gains depth through its transparency, and a cool-toned storm gray." Every colour gets what Sony calls a premium glossy sheen.
VGC carried the same statements from both designers, along with the full price list.
What happens next
Mark November 10 if you want one early, and check whether your country is on Sony's direct list before planning on a cover. The collection launches starting February 4, 2027, and Sony's post covers only these three designs.
Jax's take: The controller is the one to watch. Translucent shells are pure late-'90s catnip and Emerald Green looks the pick of the three, but $84.99 is a stiff price for a colour, and with the covers limited to direct sales or select retailers, they're a much harder ask for anyone outside Sony's list.
