Seafarer: The Ship Sim reaches full release on September 24 after its period in PC Early Access, while also expanding to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. On Xbox, the launch is listed for Series X|S with Xbox Play Anywhere support, giving the maritime simulator a much broader release than its original Early Access footprint.
The core pitch remains a working life at sea rather than a single type of ship mission. Xbox Wire describes an open world inspired by Northern Europe where players can take the helm alone or in online multiplayer with a crew of up to four, moving between cargo work, rescue calls, firefighting, patrol duties and unexpected events.
Full release brings the career to consoles
The official Steam announcement for the September 24 milestone says Seafarer entered Early Access with a smaller version of its maritime career and grew through five major content updates. Those updates added or expanded systems including free trade, reputation, work shifts, campaign chapters, drone operations and co-op crews.
The co-op system lets as many as four players operate the same vessel together in supported activities. Xbox Wire says crews can split responsibilities on board and coordinate during missions, with the group sharing the practical work of keeping a voyage moving rather than being separated into a different competitive mode.
Career progression is built around completing jobs, earning reputation across harbours and factions, unlocking opportunities and expanding a fleet. The Xbox listing also describes a story-driven campaign, alongside practical ship activities such as moving cargo, responding to distress calls and using tools including cranes, water cannons, drones and rescue equipment.
That variety is part of the full-release pitch, but it is still publisher and platform-holder information rather than an independent assessment of how the systems feel in practice.
September 24 is the end of Early Access, not the end of updates
Astragon's Steam announcement frames full release as the end of the game's Early Access phase. It also confirms that September 24 is the first console release date for Seafarer, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S joining the PC version on the same day.
For Xbox players, Xbox Wire includes the game in its September 21-to-25 release roundup, gives September 24 as the release date and marks it as optimized for Series X|S with Xbox Play Anywhere. The same roundup describes solo play alongside crews of up to four.
The important distinction is that "full release" describes the game's development milestone and wider platform availability. It does not, by itself, prove that every ship system is realistic, that multiplayer is seamless or that the campaign has a particular quality. Those are review questions.
What can be confirmed is the shape of the launch: Seafarer is leaving Early Access, arriving on current-generation consoles, supporting solo play and crews of up to four, and carrying a career structure built around multiple kinds of maritime work. That makes September 24 the point where the project moves from an evolving PC Early Access release into its broader commercial version.
