Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is scheduled to launch on October 2 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, with current Bandai Namco launch material listing Deluxe Edition early access for September 28. Xbox Wire's September 25 feature adds detail about how the campaign is structured, how aircraft are unlocked and customised, and how the game presents the pilot between missions.

Bandai Namco's own product material confirms the October 2 release date and says the game is developed by Bandai Namco Aces. It also confirms the Deluxe Edition includes three days of early access, while the standard release remains October 2.

More than 30 aircraft sit inside a progression tree

Xbox Wire reports that Ace Combat 8 has more than 30 aircraft and uses an aircraft tree to manage progression. Rather than treating every plane as a flat unlock, the system links purchases and upgrades into a broader path, giving players a reason to think about which roles and aircraft families they want to develop.

That fits the series' long-running mix of arcade-style flying and loadout decisions, but the September 25 material should not be mistaken for an independent review of balance. Xbox Wire's hands-on impressions are useful context, while claims about how satisfying or dramatic the game feels remain the author's experience rather than an objective property of the release.

Bandai Namco also lists a range of real-world aircraft on the game's official site and confirms that campaign and online play are part of the package. The publisher's aircraft pages and edition information provide a useful check on the release details, while Xbox Wire fills in more of the moment-to-moment structure.

The campaign spends more time with the pilot outside the cockpit

One of the more visible presentation changes is the use of first-person scenes between missions. Bandai Namco says the campaign follows the pilot carrying the "Wings of Theve" name during a war in the fictional Strangereal setting. Xbox Wire describes those intermission sequences as a way to spend time aboard the carrier, interact with squad members and connect missions into a more continuous story.

That does not mean the game has become a first-person adventure. The core remains aerial combat. The significance is that the spaces between sorties appear to carry more narrative work than a simple briefing screen.

For Xbox players, the confirmed timeline is straightforward. Deluxe Edition buyers are promised three days of early access, while the general release is October 2. Bandai Namco has separately outlined multiplayer modes and preorder content, so buyers comparing editions should check those inclusions rather than assuming every bonus is part of the standard package.

The September 25 update is therefore best read as a clearer picture of progression and presentation before launch: more than 30 aircraft, an aircraft-tree structure, customisation and first-person between-mission scenes. Whether those pieces improve the campaign will need to be judged after release, but the underlying features and dates are now documented.

The date also resolves one small source inconsistency around early access. Bandai Namco's current multiplayer announcement states September 28 for Deluxe Edition early access, while some older promotional material described the three-day window as September 29. Players buying specifically for early access should rely on the newest store and launch messaging for their region, because delivery and storefront timing can vary. The worldwide standard launch remains listed as October 2.
